SUMMER

It’s official!

Summer is here.

The true signal was not the partying of the Memorial Day weekend (with traditional rounds of storms), but the Feasting of the Mosquitoes.

I am an itchy mess!

The top inside arch of both feet, my right shin, both knees, one of my stomach (which means the little bugger had to go thru my denim shorts!), and the back of my hands are on fire!! ARG!!! IT ITCHES!!!

But I must not touch. I must ignore the desire to alternatively scrape my big toes or heals against the inside arch of the opposing foot. And then when I do break down…ooohh the ecstasy of relief.

Those whining monsters didn’t even care that I had put the Bug dope on!!!

Summer 2008 is going to be The Year of the Big Scratch if this keeps up.

I spent the weekend visiting my family I haven’t seen in years. Sara’s wedding a few years ago I believe. And now she has a gorgeous 9 month old boy. My afternoon consisted of lounging in a lawn chair listening to stories of shotguns, bobcats, and merry mischief, and playing games. Time traveled at a lovely pace as the kids climbed trees and played football, and the adults tossed a few back.

The feast began with hellos and hugs, and moved directly to the buffet. Dips, chips and veggies, shrimp and pizza wontons, spinach dip and bread. It was hard to be sensible and only sample. It helped to take the small plate. The thing that really seemed to work was to Not Stand Next to the Buffet. lol

We played that game with the Velcro ball and paddle. You catch the ball every time unless the throw is wild, which allows for laughter instead of a grumbling chase. The new paddles created a crisp ripping sound after every toss. (Jerry Seinfeld’s dad Morty would have gone into a mad frenzy.)

Mother Nature is known for her fickle nature on Memorial Day and she didn’t fail this year. We were lucky. Two storms blew thru fast dropping lots of rain and some dime size hail. From the robotic warnings on the radio the storms seemed to split around us.

Night came and we lit a fire. Not a bonfire ~ we were expressly forbidden to light the deadfall, but a roaring blaze that jumped, danced and entranced. One little 2nd cousin (absolutely lovely and polite at 3) wanted ‘fluffermallers’ and when her gram went off to find them I asked her “Burned or toasted brown?” “White” was her quiet response! LOL She also insisted on placing hers on the toasting sticks, so they would taste just right. The stick was bigger than she so she had to arch back to put them on and while taking bites. It was one of the loveliest things I have ever seen in my life. A true blessing and gift.

I would love to hear from you.

2008 ACM'S

Carrie opens up with “Last Name” and sounds great. I’m not sure I liked her jump suit though. Not from the front, belt down anyway, lol.

Carrie has a glittery microphone. I’m going to see if the engineers can get a bedazzler kit for ours!

Reba’s opening monologue was great! LOL to Reba saying Nicole Kidman voted Keith Urban Entertainer of the Year. Nicole looked a wee bit embarrassed.

Toby looked great! Love “She’s a Hottie.” Toby gives the ACM’s all the love and none to the CMA’s who never gave him awards and then stopped nominating him even! I will have to check to see when he was last nominated for an ACM since he is performing, but not up for anything this year.

OK Poppy Montgomery is on a CBS show, but WTH is Chris Angel doing there? Presenting the first award too! Single of the Year = “Stay” Yay!!! I never tire of hearing that song thanks to its raw heartache. So, I wanted Big & Rich to win with “Lost in this Moment,” but felt that Sugarland could take it so I am counting that as a win. (So one right for me!)

Jason Alexander was funny introducing Brad Paisley performing “I’m Still a Guy” (which was great)! Bedazzler accident, no one in synagogue. LMAO

Now we know that Lady Antebellum cleans up nicely! Top New Female! Taylor Swift! (Two right for me!) Shout out to Kellie Pickler right away, and thanks only her mom! How sweet is this child!? I LOVE HER!

Garth gets some congrats on his Crystal Milestone award.

LOL to Blake introducing Miranda! I love her top! And I love “Gunpowder and Lead!”

Little Big Town looked great, and I called it ~ Top New Duo or Group = Lady Antebellum winning! (Three in a row for me!)

Rodney Atkins sings a medley of hits. Maybe at the CMA’s he can sing his current hit “Invisibly Shaken.” It’s so beautiful, I really hope it becomes his 5th straight number one from If You’re Going Thru Hell, so he can break a record. If I had only heard that song I would buy the album.

Clay Walker and Brad Mates gave out Top New Male. Brad said Hoser just like the Canadian he is! Lol Top New Male = Jack Ingram. Loved Jack’s hair Loved his speech. (and that’s 4 wins for me)

Dick Clark congrats to Garth. He still looks good. Huey Lewis congratulations were great too.

Kenny Chesney performs “Better As a Memory.” I think I’ve seen Kenny wear that outfit before. Grey slacks, and black shirt with his black cowboy hat. Guys are so lucky when it comes to the wardrobe. He looked great.

George Strait sings “I Saw God Today” and I agree with Reba, I think it’s one of my favs he’s ever recorded too.

I love Reba’s intro to Kenny & George singing “Shiftwork.” You can tell Kenny is totally thrilled and enamored with George Strait. The way he looks at him, you can tell he’s his hero. I love that! George is really having a good time too.

Nice for Reba to remember our Troops! THANK YOU!!!!

Honey is paying attention. He knew it was Sugarland before she said their name! He laughed when she sang the “doooo ooooo ooooo” of “All I Want to Do.” I love the song, and can’t wait to get my hands on it. Not sure how I feel about that polka dot jacket Kristian is wearing! And Jen has a pant suit on similar to Carrie’s, so this looks like a new trend I won’t like! I love the song!! They were having a blast!

Album of the Year – Miranda Lambert!! I have never been so excited to be wrong (until the next time ~ hehe). She said “holy crap!” lol You’ll see from my previous blog who I wanted.

(This is from channel surfing over during a commercial in American Dad) Did Miranda Lambert just win Album of the Year? Shut up! That is “fantastic.” There you have my exact quote when I landed on the show. How awesome for her. Can’t wait ‘til she hits the DC Fair in August. She looked gorgeous. And she thanked her boyfriend for encouraging her. Of course, we all know its Blake Shelton. How sweet that was. They’ve been together about two years now. Got together awfully close to his divorce, so tongues were wagging, but they seemed to have proved that they are more than a hot fling that could have ended a marriage. (I never bought into that theory.)

Brooks & Dunn sound so good with that great new song “Put a Girl in It.” Yay! Reba comes out and joins them.

Song of the Year – “Stay”! Another win for Lezli! (5) Jennifer is crying. It is so beautiful. Hey to cutting off Kristian! He prolly had another 10 seconds to go.

Congrats to Garth from Billy Joel. Garth honored Billy Joel and recorded his “Shameless.”

New song from Taylor ~ “Should of Said No.” the honey was confused by her initial outfit of jeans and the skater hoodie pulled up. He said she looked, sounded, and was trying to be Avril Lavigne. She has definitely changed it up, but she it still country! Wow to the guys pulling off the clothes (two, one on each side), and double wow to her going into the water to sing! Then laughing that she did it. What a sweet, fun girl! Remember all you men, she is just 18, so don’t be a perv.

Rascal Flatts wins the Home Depot Humanitarian Award. They can’t shut down Joe Don when he wants starts to talk about the tornados that hit his home town area. Then Gary had to talk super fast. They should have just shut off Dr. Phil and his wife and let them go into the intro. (I use to be a Dr. Phil fan, but now I can’t stand what he has devolved into.)

Tune in for Vocal Duo – OH! Brooks & Dunn again! Everyone was thinkin’ Sugarland. My honey said about their acceptance speech, “They don’t care that they won.” I love Brooks & Dunn, and it must be hard to be in their boots. I know they don’t take the award for granted and work hard, but can’t we just name the award for them already? They seemed lubed up to me, I think they have been hitting the bar.

Trace performs the beautiful “You’re Gonna Miss This.” His performance is one of the highlights for me.

Garth gets the first ever Crystal Milestone Award. They have to give something to a guy who has sold over a 100 million records and has been so influential in the genre. I loved his medley. Trisha looked beautiful. Oh, they have good chemistry. More Than a Memory is soooooo good. They’ve really given him a long segment. ROFLMAO at his calling Reba Ms. Yearwood!!! He does speak for all of us, doesn’t he? (we all love her)

Kalie from The Big Bang (great show!), and I don’t know who that Ultimate Fight guy is. She was cute when she said, “I’ve always wanted to do this, Top Vocal Group is…Rascal Flatts.” (That’s 6 – this may be my best show yet!) No surprise there. Now these boys don’t seem like they are tired of receiving that award. The music started up just as Joe Don was going to speak, but shut up after about 5 seconds.

LOL to Reba’s jab at Paris Hilton. “There are 7 wonders of the world, well 8 if you count Paris Hilton’s career.”

OOOOOO Keith Urban performing in the middle of the crowd. I love that blond beat boxing along. (We find out later it's Top New Female nominee Sarah Buxton - who wrote "Stupid Boy" that was a big hit for Keith so it makes sense.) “I Just Love Your Company” aka “Tu Compania.” So much fun! Great summertime song!

David Spade’s joke was funny but long. Best part may have been him acknowledging that it was long.

Rascal Flatts were good singing “Everyday.”

Carrie Underwood looks so fantastic.

Wow to that clip of Eddy Arnold. From the moment Carrie started to sing I was blown away! “Make the World Go Away.” With Brad Paisley on guitar, and adding vocals! You know they have to release this! Wow was that so moving. I have tears!

Kellie Pickler had a glittery microphone to. Now I really want one. Wow, “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful” is going to be a hit. Great start to prove she won’t fall to the sophomore jinx.

I loved the dress Trisha was wearing when introducing the Top Male Vocalist.
Yay to Brad Paisley winning Top Male Vocalist!!!!! (My heart won this pick ~ and that counts so 7!) Oh, that makes me so happy. And he slaps hands of so many as he comes up to win. Ohhhh, he thanks his son for the first time! Thanks everyone’s mother and father. He is funny.

Awwww Rodney Atkins has his son with him.

LeAnn Rimes has really grown up. She has on a short shirt!!! Wowie to her long legs. You guys got lucky with that eye candy – we ladies get lucky with that a lot. I really liked her song “Family.”

Dwight Yoakum and a Victoria Secret Supermodel (not attempting it) Dwight is asking her how tall she is – which is 6’3” in her heels. He was saying the last time he was out with 5 ugly guys and this was better. I think Dwight Yoakum got yelled at for not following the script. He was better than what they could have wrote. I wonder what he bet her about Brad Paisley winning. Too funny. Top Female Vocalist. My honey was in the other room and yelled out “Carrie Underwood” when he heard her name announced. LOL (That’s 8)

Time to find out who the fans voted for Entertainer of the Year = Kenny Chesney (9 for me tonight – that has to be a record)…no surprise. “I wanna thank my mom and dad for having sex!” LOL

Man, the Oscars could learn a thing or two about time couldn’t they with the ACM’s.

Now I have to share a mini – rant.

I am already mad at CBS for canceling Moonlight, and putting the ACM’s on Sunday night, up against the finale’s of The Simpson’s and Desperate Housewives really ticked me off!!! A Sunday night really blows for having this show on. You know I normally love this show, and after a crazy weekend, I just wasn’t into it, plus, I want to watch the DH finale!!!! I had to tape most of the awards (the honey wanted to watch FOX and so did I). I’ll post the ratings when I get the, but I bet they didn’t do well.

The ACM AWARD’S are this Sunday. CBS ~ 7pm

Please feel free to sound off on who you want to win, or who you think will win, or both, since, at least for me, those can be two different things.
