Something different this year. The Best Song nominees will not be performing as they have in years past.
Instead, the songs will air from the films they are nominated for to "provide context." They will not run them together, but rather at different times throughout the show.
Why? Past song portions haven't faired well in the ratings, they are expensive and add to the overrun of the broadcast. (yeah, 'cuz it's not as if they know ahead of time how long each song is so they can adapt)
Nominess are:
"Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans" from "The Princess and The Frog" by Randy Newman
"Loin de Paname" by Reinhardt Wagner and Frank Thomas from "Paris 36"
"Take It All" by Maury Yeston from "Nine"
"The Weary Kind" by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett from "Crazy Heart."
