Yes! He has signed a recording contract with Tenacity Records/Crazytown and in March we'll get his first single from them called "You Still Got It." We haven't had a new CD from him since 2009's "Sounds Like Life" for Stroudavarious Records which went out of business. Because of that he never had a chance to release his seventh album "God & Country." Very disappointing! I've been waiting for new music from Darrly, and can't wait to get the new music and play it for you!

STEEL MAGNOLIA NO LONGER WITH BIG MACHINE RECORDS

The duo of Joshua Scott Jones and Meghan Linsey have parted with their label, Big Machine Records. They were signed in 2009 after winning CMT's Can You Duet. Their CD dropped last January. It's been an up and down year for the duo. They announced their engagement in June, but in September Joshua went into a substance abuse rehab facility.

We don't really know what's going to happen with them now. I'm hopeful they will sign to a new label, as they are a wonderful, fresh sound for country radio. Best of luck to them. You know I'll keep you up to date.

I found this hilarious - and it really has some meaning too.

Checking out at the grocery store recently, the young cashier suggested I should bring my own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. I apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days." The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations." She was right about one thing -- our generation didn't have the green thing in “Our” day. So what did we have back then…? After some reflection and soul-searching on "Our" day here's what I remembered we did have.... Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles repeatedly. So they really were recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day. We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day. Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right. We didn't have the green thing back in our day. Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right. We didn't have the green thing back then. We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus, and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint. But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then? OK - now just what the heck are the Grammy's thinking? "Mama's Song" is too old to be up (IMHO)

But it's the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category that has me scratching my head. Perhaps the Grammy's need to be made aware that just 'cuz a person sings with someone else does not mean that they are a Duo or Group. Love Jason & Kelly's song and Kenny & Grace's - but I don't think they belong in this category as they are solo artists who have brought a special guest in (and one who's not country to boot!)

But that's the Grammy's - they just don't understand Country Music! They're getting better - but still...

P.S. I love the Civil Wars - but they haven't released any music for me to play. What's up with that??!!!

Each track features the work of Nashville's top musicians. THROAT SURGERY FOR KEITH URBAN

Later this month Keith Urban will have surgery to remove a polyp from his vocal cords. He has had to cancel appearances where he would need to sing multiple songs - those shows will be made up next year. He will be honoring his commitments for one-son performances, so we will see him next Wednesday at the CMA's. (YAY!) He, along with Vince Gill and Brad Paisley will be honoring Glen Campbell at the big event Wednesday, and I know Keith wouldn't want to miss honoring someone he calls a "guitarist (I LOVE that!). Someone who has probably been one of his biggest influences.

Best of luck to Keith with the surgery.

The 45th Annual CMA's are next Wednesday at 7pm.

Lionel Richie will perform some of his songs from his country duets album Tuskegee - which is coming out in March. Little Big Town, Darius Rucker, and Rascal Flatts will perform with Lionel at the CMA's.

On Tuskegee you can also hear duets with, among others, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Shania Twain, Jennifer Nettles, Billy Currington and Willie Nelson.

Can't wait to hear some of these songs!

LONESTAR IS BACK TOGETHER!!!!

What a way to celebrate their 20th anniversary! Richie McDonald has rejoined the group! There will be a new album and a world tour in 2012! (no release date yet - but I'll let you know!)

Here's the statement Richie made. "Five years has come and gone since I left Lonestar. We've all tried other avenues and the fact remains that some things were just meant to be. With the Lonestar 20-year reunion approaching, Dean, Michael, Keech and I got together and have decided we have some unfinished business to take care of. I miss those crazy nights running around onstage making music with my band of brother."

Dean Sams (keyboardist) said, "We have so much more music to offer the country music fans, and truly feel they want us back on the radio and out on the road performing live for them. After a lot of soul searching and long conversations between all of us involved, we are energized and excited to be writing and recording new music together again!"

Drummer, Keech Rainwater added, "I think fans ultimately wondered if this was ever going to happen again, and it always seemed like the original Lonestar as a whole was better than the sum of its parts. (I wonder what John Rich - who was in the original Lonestar - feels about that statement.) I think that having a break for a while, will have sparked new ideas and great music, both live and in the studio."

Michael Britt says, "I'm proud of everything we've achieved in our career so far, doing things that not many bands have been able to do. But even after all that we've done, I think we still have a powerful drive to keep making music and doing new things."

Lonestar has sold more than 10 million albums since 1995 and have 10 number ones!

So what about the lead singer that took Richie's place? Cody Collins went on tour with Lonestar, and can be heard on their 2010 album Party Heard Around the World (and you can hear him on "Let Me Love You" on WXRO). The four reunited members of Lonestar wish him the best in his future musical endeavors. (I'm curious if/when we'll hear from Cody - who I thought was very talented).

The latest on their lawsuits finds a November 29th court hearing scheduled to decide whether Tim McGraw can record any new albums during the ongoing legal dispute. A trial date on the contract dispute has been set for July 9, 2012. Court records state that the hearing will "first make a final determination on whether or not Curb is entitled to prevent Mr. McGraw, by injunction or otherwise, from recording for other entities other than Curb."

One day we might see Jason Aldean in a few roles. He recently told the Courier Press from Evansville, IN that he wouldn't rule acting out. He was pitched a movie script recently. Jason says he would like to ease into it, maybe try it out, and not jump into the larger roles right away. You know, find out if it's something he's interested in. He will not kiss anyone on screen though. He doesn't want his kids to be "confused." This doesn't stop them from trying though. Jason said, "It seems like every time I get a video treatment, for some reason it's got me hooking up with some girl and I'm like, damn, y'all gotta get somebody else to do that."

You can spot Carrie Underwood in the premier of CBS's Blue Bloods on September 23rd. Sh will play herself, along with Tony Bennett as they perform "It Had To Be You" from Tony's Duets Two album - which hits stores September 20th.

MONTGOMERY GENTRY PERFORMS FOR EVERY SOLDIER

And I do mean every soldier - around the entire globe. The USO Homefront Concert is set for next Tuesday - July 26th. The concert takes place in Louisville, Kentucky and there will be 1,400 people at the National Guard's National Volunteer's Workshop and Symposium to watch - which doesn't sound like every soldier. But...the Pentaon will uplink the concert to the Armed Forces Network. That means it will be beamed to all military bases around the world. You don't have to be in the service to watch though. Jewel and her hubby Ty Murray are parents! Monday night their baby boy was born. Kase Townes Murray arrived at 7pm (CDT), and weighed 7 pounds - 6 ounces. Jewel gushed to People exclusively, "Ty and I are so pleased to welcome our new baby boy into the world. We are overcome with happiness - it really is as great as everyone told us it would be - better even!"

Justin Moore's wife Kate is going to have a girl in November. This will be their second daughter. Ella Kole turned one last February.

Of a sort. Cheyenne Kimball has decided to leave Gloriana! There was a note posted on their website Monday that read:

As you may have heard, Cheyenne Kimball chose to leave our band. We need you to know that Gloriana will absolutely continue on. We couldn't imagine our lives any other way.

We are 100 percent committed to all of you, our fans and supporters. As planned, we will debut our new music video this week and will continue touring and supporting "Wanna Take You Home" while finishing up our new album. We wish Cheyenne the best of luck in whatever lies ahead for her.

UPDATE 7/13/11 - It seems her leaving blindsided the rest of Gloriana. Tom Gossin said, "she just kind of took off after the show." (last Friday night) She didn't respond to an email they sent her and "then, just like everybody else, we saw her Twitter page on Saturday." (That tweet has been taken down since then - but it said that she was no longer part of the group and it was time to move on.) They say it was a shock because "there was nothing particular leading up to this."

ENGAGEMENT'S!

The duo of Steel Magnolia - Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones are engaged. Joshua gave Meghan his great-grandmother's antique engagement ring (awwwww) before they won CMT's "Can You Duet" in 2009! Yes 2oo9! They've kept the secret this long. Joshua is thinking of a wedding next year on his birthday, July 10th, but Meghan says he is just thinking that date 'cuz it's his birthday. She said she asked him, "Well, do you know if it's a Saturday? Is it a Tuesday?" She said "he doesn't think about those things." Since it's Leap Year next year - she's right, it's a Tuesday, so I don't think that will be the date!

Rumors flew that Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum was engaged when she wore this ginormous diamond on her ring finger at the ACM's this spring, and she had to shoot those down. But congrats are now in order! Chris Tyrell popped the question during the 4th of July weekend. She said, "our families were close by, but it was just us out on a beautiful deck overlooking a lake on East Tennessee. We had just been on a hike and - in our workout clothes - he hit the knee! We feel so blessed by God that He sent us each other, and we are looking so forward to forever together!" Chris is currently working in Edens Edge's backing band on Brad Paisley's tour. They met while he was playing drums for Love and Theft when they were both on the Tim McGraw tour last year.

WILLIE'S POT CASE

It ain't over folks. A judge has refused to approve a plea deal that reduces Willie's drug charges - you'll recall Willie was arrested on suspicion of possession last November after the border patrol thought they smelled pot on his bus. Willie's deal allowed him to plead no contest to a reduced charge of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphenalia, and pay a $500 fine and $280 in court costs.

Last Friday County Judge Becky Dean-Walker admitted she signed that deal and then changed her mind and scratched her name out. She feels he deserves a tougher sentence, saying, "I'm not going to be guilty of signing something because someone is a celebrity...Everybody should be treated the same in my court."

So now the case is still pending.

Ever since seeing Ashton Shepherd at Country USA Saturday I have been saying she is awesome. Her performance was terrific. Well, now Rolling Stone recognized her as an "Artist to Watch." The magazine compared her to Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette.

She's had a couple of amazing songs and I hope she can continue to do well. She really is a terrific performer and I think Rolling Stone is totally right!

She has an album coming out soon - Where Country Grows - and she's going to have her baby soon.

Ashton says she hopes to be back in time to hit the CMA red carpet.

Remember last year when police found about four ounces of weed on his tour bus? Well he won't be facing any jail time for charges of marijuana possession. He did earn a misdemeanor charge. He pleaded no contest after the prosecutors agreed to reduce the charges. If he stays out of trouble for the next 30 days and pays a $500 fine the judge will dismiss the case altogether.

Finally! I have word to share with you about the much anticipated 3rd album.

It's coming out September 13th and will be called "Own the Night."

"Just a Kiss" is the first single (and it's marvelous!) and their fastest-rising song so far.

After winning 5 Grammy's they began rehearsals for the album.

Hillary Scott calls the collection "nostalgic" and hopes we pick up that vibe. She says, "We just want that title, Own the Night, to carry over into our live shows like we want our fans, our audience to take ownership in the show and live in the moment and own the night, you know?"

One of the songs is called "We Owned the Night."

I am soooo, soooo excited for this album to come out!!! "Need You Now" is one of my fav albums that keeps finding it's way into my CD player.

TRACE ADKINS HOUSE BURNS DOWN

Fortunately everyone was safe. The only casualty was the neighbor who was bitten by their dog when rescued. The poor doggie was scared so hopefully all will be forgiven. The neighbor is doing well. Brianna, one of Trace's daughters, told reporters for local TV station WTVF, "At first we were in the living room watching a movie and then the washer and dryer exploded in the garage."

Trace was flying to Alaska when this happened - he immediately flew back home. Wife Rhonda was not at home - a nanny was with the three youngest when the event occurred.

The fire spread quickly to the attic and from there they had a hard time containing it. Many items were stored in the basement, but due to water most everything was destroyed.

Rhonda puts it in perspective for us. She says "stuff is stuff," and while she is "sick" over the loss of wedding pix and negatives she did add, "practice fire safety and back up all your pictures."

I hope everyone takes the time to talk about how important fire safety is after hearing about this. Do you have a plan? Where will you all meet if this happens to you?

TIM McGRAW COUNTERSUES CURB

Tim is seeking advance payment, reimbursement for recording expenses, unspecified damages and a jury trial! Tim says, in his lawsuit, that "Emotional Traffic" was recorded and mastered in early 2009 and 2010. He wants the CD to complete his contractual obligation to the label and to be "free to begin recording for himself or any other party as of July 23, 2011."

See my previous blog about this issue. I feel that the last statement here from Tim's lawsuit is indicating that I was/am on the right path with my thoughts.

I also want to say that I think "Felt Good On My Lips" is "topical and new" it's so fresh sounding.

CURB RECORDS IS SUING TIM McGRAW

They're claiming "breach of contract."

Last year Tim turned in Emotional Traffic to his label, Curb records, and now Curb is alleging that he turned it in too close to the completion of Southern Voice (his 2009) album. An attorney for Curb says the songs were not "topical and new" as a result of his contract stipulation.

Tim's spokesperson responded to AOL, "Tim McGraw delivered his new album, Emotional Traffic, to Curb in the fall of 2010. The label is holding the album hostage from country music fans in an attempt to force Tim McGraw to serve perpetually under a contract that he has already fully and faithfully completed."

Hmmmm - sounds very weird to me. Seems many artists crank albums out year after year, plus I know that some have tons of songs they've written just sitting waiting to be recorded. And some could argue that their term "topical and new" is ambiguous.

It sounds like Curb is worried that Tim will be moving on from their label, causing them to take a huge financial hit, when he has fulfilled his contract and they are trying very hard to stall that. It is all the rage now for big artists to leave their long established label for a new one. (And that is something that I think labels need to seriously look at, figure out why, and change their business model. There has to be a reason that their established artists are looking for fresh waters.)

I think it's a safe bet that whenever they release this album, Tim will be done with Curb records and moving on to another label.

THOMPSON SQUARE HELPS

We all remember the horrible tornado's that struck Alabama last month and Shawna Thompson of Thompson Square is helping out a family who was affected. She will auction of the dress she wore in their video "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not." The money will go to Greg Box who lost his wife and two of his four children when a tornado struck Deer Park on April 15th. Greg and his 17-year-old daughter were both hospitalized with injuries. His 11-year-old daughter was spared because she wasn't home when the tornado struck. Shawna says the tragedy hit close to home since she grew up in a nearby town - Chatom. RANDY TRAVIS TEAMS WITH CRACKER BARREL

Continuing a trend that irritates me - Randy Travis is releasing his latest album, Randy Travis, exclusively at Cracker Barrel. Why would an artist (especially one who has fallen out of - or has yet to really make it into the mainstream eye) want to limit who has access to their music? This makes no sense to me. It's even worse than artists who release their CD's widely, but you can only find the bonus CD's at certain outlets (I still haven't purchased the latest Keith Urban CD 'cuz you can only get the bonus CD - with a bunch more songs - at Target). This makes no sense to me. I could understand if it started there, and then went for wide release later. Other artists who have joined the exclusive Cracker Barrel club are Kenny Rogers, Craig Morgan, Jason Michael Carroll and the Grascals.

At least Randy and Cracker Barrel will both send a portion of the proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Randy says, “After touring quite a number of our country’s military bases and performing repeatedly for our troops, I can tell you that there is nothing as rewarding as doing these shows for our service men and women. The love they have for this country is inspiring and I am glad that Cracker Barrel, where I myself like to eat, is supporting such a worthwhile project.”

Here it is!!!

It's coming out June 7th and I'm super excited for this CD from the wonderful Ronnie Dunn. Ronnie had a hand in writing 9 of the 12 songs. He also worked with Terry McBride, who also worked with Brooks & Dunn. In fact, Terry wrote "Play Something Country," "Proud of the House We Built," and "That's What She Gets For Loving Me."

Hopefully Mother Nature will play nice and we'll have a decent weekend for egg hunts and candy.

Not to mention looking gorgeous in your new Easter outfit and hat for church. That was always a big thing when I was a kid - getting super dressed up for Easter. I remember the year I was about 6 and my pretty white dress with black patten leather Mary Janes.

We are hosting Easter for the first time this year so I'm really excited. We'll be dying eggs for the first time in over a decade. I can't believe the number of egg coloring kits out now. I have a regular one, a tie-dye kit, and a shiny egg kit that involves some kind of pretty wrap that makes the eggs look like jewels to me. (Yes I did buy three kits!)

My family always has an Easter egg hunt and our backyard is pretty bit so it will be fun to hide them. Since we are hosting we get to hide them. Adults and children compete - though we adults usually go pretty easy on the kids, so they end up with the most.

I have only bought 2 cartons of marshmallow eggs this year - which is amazingly good for us. It's our favorite Easter candy - I just wish they didn't come in huge styrofoam containers. The trick is to not buy a lot of Easter candy ahead of time so it can make its way into the eggs we hide.

I have been keeping up my Snap Fitness workouts and have been watching what I eat so I know I am still making progress with my healthy lifestyle. I know I can have a great Easter without feeling guilty. I still don't want to completely pig out, but I know I can indulge. I can have my Easter Eggs and eat them too!
