Ya'll know what the Razzies are right? They celebrate the worst movies of the year - and are announced the day before the Oscar nominations, and their ceremony is held the day before The Oscars. Of course, most of Hollywood doesn't approve - but who couldn't help but love Halle Berry more than when she showed up to accept her Razzie for Worst Actress in the movie "Catwoman?"
I normally don't have a problem with The Razzie's - we all know Hollywood takes themselves too seriously (most of the time) and we've all seen our share of stinkers that have made us wonder how such and such a movie ever got made (Hunger 2 is at the top of my list - a cross between a super bad horror movie and a porno).
But this year....well this year they're morons! Why? It's not really the movies they are nominating that has me feeling this way as everyone is entitled to their opinion (and I know a lot of people hate these particular movies), but it's their reasoning that makes them utterly moronic!
"Twilight: Eclipse" is up for Worst Movie and the actors are all up for Worst Actors. Fine - but as I said, their reasoning is stupid. Here's the quote (from the Yahoo story).
Razzies founder John Wilson said that though "Vampires Suck" was a "Twilight" spoof, "Eclipse" actually was funnier to watch. "I know people who are into 'Twilght' who take it totally seriously and they're very vociferous," Wilson said. "Those of us who are not 'Twi-hards,' we don't get it. I don't actually know any teenage girls who have had to make the choice between a werewolf and a vampire."
UM - you MORON - it's not real - and most 'Twi-hards' - while passionate - realize that this is a work of fiction so, if that's your basis for selecting Razzies then where is the "Black Swan" Razzie, as...well, I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen this amazing flick - but let's just say there's a few things that happen in it that I've never seen in the real world either. Or how about Harry Potter? Last time I checked pollyjuice potion doesn't really exist, or Kestrels, or...well, I could go on couldn't I?
He also says some equally stupid stuff about "The Last Airbender" - an M. Night Shyamalan movie - which is up for Worst Director and Screenplay.
"All of this gobbledygook language about airbenders and fire benders and water benders," Wilson said. "You feel like you're on a bender watching the movie. It's completely illogical."
Sigh.
It's called Fantasy! These might not have been great movies in his eyes, but using the rationale that teenagers don't have to choose between vamps and werewolves in real life, or that bending an element to your will is illogical, is well, illogical. Not to mention Ridiculous. Plus, you lose your credibility. Suddenly it's obvious that you're not being objective in your selection, but rather that you have some bias against these movies.
I admit it - I LOVE "Twilight" - I thought the Movie "Eclipse" was MOST EXCELLENT! I know lots of people hate "Twilight" - but if you hate it because it couldn't happen in real life, then you need to seek help from a paid professional because you have some big problems.
